With Marvel Studios’ most recent announcement on Disney Investor Day, fans were introduced to a slew of upcoming live action Marvel/Disney+ shows, including an event series adapting Secret Invasion. Since the announcement, fans have been patiently waiting for more casting announcements. Now, it seems that Emilia Clarke is signing on to join Secret Invasion in an undisclosed role. Clarke (Game of Thrones) will be joining MCU alumni Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Ben Mendelsohn (Talos), and newcomers Kingsley Ben-Adir and Olivia Colman.
Secret Invasion will be an adaptation of the Marvel Comics storyline of the same name, and will be using Marvel’s Captain Marvel franchise as both a launching point and a continuation of the live-action story. The comic saw the secret invasion of Skrulls amongst Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and many others on the big blue planet. As for the series, though, it is unclear what the plot will hold, as the Skrulls, the agitators in the comics, have been shown as innately good beings.
Clarke is no stranger to large franchises, as she starred as Daenarys Targaryen on HBO’s sensational fantasy series Game of Thrones, based on the novels of “A Song of Ice and Fire” by author George R.R. Martin. The actress also stepped into the world of the Terminators in Terminator: Genisys, starring alongside Jai Courtney and Jason Clarke in the 2015 sci-fi sequel.
The MCU, for it’s part, has been targetting massive names of late. Marvel Studios cast Clarke’s Game of Thrones co-star Kit Harrington as Black Knight in the upcoming Eternals film, currently slated for a November 5th release. Other star talent recently cast by the studio includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Angelina Jolie (Eternals), Mahershala Ali (Blade), and Oscaar Isaac (Moon Knight), and many more. After 23 films, two television shows, and countless more to come, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a cashcow for Disney and a chance for actors of all cailbers to have their talent reach massive audiences across the globe.
