Narcos: Mexico‘s Tenoch Huerta is rumored to play Namor in the Black Panther sequel. Though it is just a rumor at the time, Namor has long been rumored to make an appearance in the sequel to the 2018 film. However, details of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are scarce. Tenoch Huerta indeed has been cast in the film in what was originally described as an unknown villain role. Now, it appears The Illuminerdi has revealed that Huerta will be taking a seat on the throne of Atlantis.
An earlier rumor from last March suggested that Atlantis will be making its debut in the upcoming The Eternals film, which stars an ensemble cast and will release in theaters on November 5th of this year. Whether that will prove to be true or not remains to be seen, though it may be unlikely that Tenoch Huerta’s Namor will make his debut in the celestial film.
Namor the Submariner first hit comics in 1939, and was created by Bill Everett under Timely Comics, which was the predecessor to Marvel Comics. He was born to be the ruler of Atlantis, which, in the comics, finds itself at odds quite often with the Wakandan nation. If Namor and Atlantis are intende to be the villains of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, then there is a rich history of conflict in the comics, and would serve to be a great entrance for the underwater king.
In the MCU, Atlantis was teased as being just off the coast of Africa, close to Wakanda, in 2010’s Iron Man 2. At the time, the tease was nothing more than fanfare considering how few films Marvel Studios had actually released at the time and with no idea of how expansive things would become. The location is quite similar to it’s location in the comics, however, once more making a conflict between the two fictional nations extremely plausible.
The majority of the cast of 2018’s Black Panther is expected to return with director Ryan Coogler returning to helm the project. The late, great actor Chadwick Boseman, who starred as T’Challa/Black Panther in the 2018 film, will not find his role recast or digitally recreated, according to Marvel Studios co-president Kevin Feige. What Marvel’s plan is moving forward, however, is unknown. Aside from Tenoch Huerta, not many other actors have been cast in the film.
