A24 has released an oral history of the Green Knight, Sir Gawain, ahead of the film’s debut next month.

No need for Sparknotes to catch up on what you missed back in your British Literature class. A24 has your back with their new exciting oral history trailer for David Lowery’s upcoming movie The Green Knight, which dropped today on Twitter and Youtube.

Based on the anonymously written medieval romance Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, A24 takes us through an overview of the work with Ralph Ineson as our guide. With his robust voice, Ineson describes the overall history of the tale and the fact that there is but one manuscript in existence that narrowly missed its impending doom via flame.

Ineson moves on to discuss the legend and the hero, Sir Gawain. Sir Gawain, portrayed by Dev Patel, is a knight of King Arthur’s round table and states that he does not have any heroic tales to tell. However, his Aunt Guinevere, played by Kate Dickie, almost all knowingly and ominously states “yet”. A knight’s honor is tested, as Ineson states, through a quest; on his quest, Gawain’s loyalty, chivalry, and courage are all tested along the way.

A brief who’s who is then given to further your knowledge. A picture and name is given with an almost resume-like describer beneath it.

As the trailer comes to a close, Ineson focuses on the overarching moral lesson: Make honor the guiding light through the darkest of journeys.

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight will be released in theatre on July 30th, 2021.
