Dexter: New Blood Episode Two is titled “Storm of F**k”. Warren Hsu Leonard serves as the episode’s writer, while Marcos Siega returns to the director’s chair. This episode immediately resolves last week’s mistake as it watches the title character cover his tracks, which is amazing; quite a return to form for the character.

The Cast of This Week’s Dexter: New Blood

The cast continues to shine well and is one of the centerpieces of the season. Johnny Sequoyah and Clancy Brown finally get some screen time and bring their respective scenes together. I cannot stand Brown’s character and we’ve only seen five minutes of him. He’s nice enough, but unless I just didn’t pay enough attention, he’s already been established as the show’s antagonist; and we can see his human side come to the top towards the episode’s end.

Michael C. Hall continues to shine as Dexter Morgan, and Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter) is actually very entertaining in this episode, which is great! Jack Alcott is fantastic as Harrison and can match Hall very well in their scenes.

Discussion

This need that Dexter has to be a hero, or god, or even a good chance to change someone, returns in this episode; and he really wants to be in Harrison’s life and protect his son, as he declares at the end of the previous episode. At the same time, he knows that, arguably, he’s responsible for every death around him, and he doesn’t want to get his son killed. Although, he also wants to fulfill this need to kill.

It can also be said that maybe Dexter wants Harrison to have his own Dark Passenger, but then again maybe not. Hopefully, this is something that gets addressed in the season; there was also a great conversation at the beginning of the episode that reveals Hannah’s fate and ties up loose ends. These loose ends were left untied between the end of the original run and last week’s season premiere.

Other Elements of This Week’s Episode

The fantastic cinematography returns in this episode and Siega’s direction is nicely executed. The dynamic between Dexter and Harrison is great, and the expansion of Dexter’s relationship with Angela is nice. The writing is some of the best for the character and is well to acknowledge almost everything Dexter has been through. Although, this is done very incoherently and it’s so smooth when everything plays through. There are also several great mentions on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women as well. This is especially fantastic as the town – wherein the miniseries is set – is stationed next to a Native American reservation.

Final Thoughts

The episode, once again, ends with a tease of what’s to come next on the show. For the character, and it is excitingly interesting.

Next week’s episode should be even better! Are you watching the show’s revival? What are your theories for the revival? For more on Dexter, stay here with TCS!
