Dexter: New Blood Episode Six is titled “Too Many Tuna Sandwiches” and Marcos Siega returns to the director’s chair. The episode is written by Scott Reynolds & Warren Hsu Leonard. This week, Dexter’s (Michael C. Hall) truth comes to the surface, Harrison (Jack Alcott) reveals some of his deepest secrets, and Kurt (Clancy Brown) continues his nefarious ways.

Plot Summary

The cast remains a staple this week and they continue to entertain as the show goes on. Dexter and Harrison attend therapy early on in the episode and connect a bit more. Unfortunately, Dexter continues to hesitate telling Harrison about his actual past. Further, their shared traumas are brought to light as well, and it’s quite interesting that every week more is discovered about how much they have in common as father/son; their therapist mentions that they could have inherited trauma.

Kurt continues to be a creep as well. He attempts to kidnap another victim twice, although, in the second time, when the victim becomes Molly (Jamie Chung), Dexter oddly intervenes. Moreover, Angela (Julia Jones) questions Dexter about his actual past while Harrison and Audrey (Johnny Sequoyah) get more acquainted. It is very interesting to see where the characters will end up next week.

Character Developments

Dexter and Harrison continue to develop their relationship, but again, Dexter, for whatever reason, is still struggling to tell Harrison the truth. This could possibly lead to a better connection between the two. It is also possible that Dexter could teach Harrison The Code and mentor him, but Harrison also doesn’t seem to realize the true darkness within himself.

Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) continues to entertain as well and Molly seems to be messing with death, or Kurt, and is hell bid to get a story on Matt. However, Dexter continues to play hero, while also returning to his old ways of tracking down information. He also takes a minute to reminisce about “the good old days” while listening to Molly’s podcast.

Other Elements of this Week’s Dexter: New Blood

The cinematography of the show remains a mainstay this week as well. In particular, Harrison has a wrestling match that occurs towards the end of the episode, and the camera movement is done extremely well. The rest of the episode looks and feels fantastic and it really feels like an extension of Dexter’s world, as it’s a new habitat Dexter’s feels comfortable in. Another great anecdote about the show: the words of “new blood” on the title screen of every episode drip with more blood each week, which is fantastic.

Final Thoughts

“Too Many Tuna Sandwiches” is great! The episode reveals more about the main characters and ends with a great cliffhanger that really keeps you begging for more. It seems that, as we are getting into the latter half of the season, the best parts of the show are being presented and the stakes are getting higher. The season seems to be hinting at a crazy ending, as this week reveals a lot about everything.
