This week’s episode of The Book of Boba Fett leans more towards the ‘current’ timeline, but things are still a little slow. “Chapter 3 – The Streets of Mos Espa” is directed by Robert Rodriguez and written by Jon Favreau. The episode stars Temuera Morrison, Ming-Na Wen, Sophie Thatcher and Jordan Bolger.
A Tusken Tribute
Episode 3 of The Book of Boba Fett has fewer flashbacks this week (after Boba’s bath time is rudely interrupted by one mean-looking Wookiee!) and it’s very much appreciated. While I did enjoy the interactions between Boba Fett (Morrison) and the Tusken Raiders, I feel that it took away from the main storyline and was dragging the story out a little too much. Although it’s almost certainly not the last of the backstory we see in the show, it will be nice to have more variety and hopefully more progression now that this part of the story has ended. It’s clear that the show is setting up a motive for Boba Fett’s future actions, so it will be interesting to see where they go with it.
Making Friends – The Fun Way!
We’re starting to see more of a progression of the main storyline of this series, and it’s nice to see them finally introducing more characters who will — hopefully — have more of an impact on the series further down the line. While I don’t think we’ve seen the last of the Twins or our new Wookiee friend, the fact that they’re starting to flesh out the new story is very welcomed – if not the most satisfying.
We’re almost at the halfway point of the series, and it feels like we’re still in the first or second episode. The action scenes in this episode don’t quite hit the mark, and there’s a chase scene that feels particularly slow. They’re hopefully going to pick up the speed with the exposition and build up at this point, but the series feels a little slow throughout so far.
Hope for the Future
Now that we have more depth to the story and new characters to help along the way, I think we might be getting into the main action. We’re introduced to a speeder bike gang that adds to our cast of underdogs and misfits trying to make their way through a dangerous and difficult lifestyle.
The speeder bike gang, along with new tensions and a heightened power struggle, adds a lot of potentials for this series to pick up. So far we’ve had a slow build, but I think this would be the perfect time for them to give more depth and meaning to the story — and I think they could pull it off. If a show can successfully make me want a pet rancor, they can do anything!
The Book of Boba Fett Episode 1-3 is now available to stream on Disney+.
