It’s been over three years since HBO released a new installment into the detective thriller series True Detective. But now, Variety reveals that the premium network has begun development on True Detective season 4. Tigers Are Not Afraid and Moonlight directors Issa Lopez and Barry Jenkins are set to take the helm. The new installment is titled “Night Country”.

Lopez will serve as the season writer and will direct the pilot. Jenkins, along with Lopez, Adele Romanski, and Mark Ceryak will act as executive producers to “Night Country”. Previous season-producer Anonymous Content, the production company founded by producer Steve Golin, will return for season 4.

The series acts as an anthology series, telling a new story each season. The first season of True Detective released in 2014, with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrleson serving as the leads of a religious killings mystery. Season 2 focused on Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch, and Rachel McAdams’s investigation into governmental and business corruption. Season 3 shifts through multiple timelines to tell the tale of a boy’s murder and his sister’s disappearance with Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff leadin gthe charge.

true Detective earned 23 primetime Emmy nominations in its three-season run. The first season walked away with the only 5 the series won.

No details for True Detective season 4 yet exist, nor do any casting announcements. Variety reached out to HBO for comment, but the premium network offered none.

The series has been lauded by critics and audiences alike for its gritty portrayal of crime and tales of their leads’ lives.
