The Season 1 finale of HBO Max’s Minx is finally here, and it’s a beautiful ending to a show that has portrayed an incredible journey and exploration of growth. There have been many issues covered, and it has been a hilarious and emotional journey. Episodes 9 and 10 star Ophelia Lovibond, Jake Johnson, Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Oscar Montoya, Lennon Parham, Gillian Jacobs, and Amy Landecker.

Nothing to Apologise For

Things seem to be falling apart at Minx after the events of Episode 8, and Episode 9 “A Scintillating Conversation About a Lethal Pesticide” (directed by Natalia Leite and written by Kimberly Nicole Walker) has our publishing team doing some deep soul searching to figure out what they want.

Doug (Jake Johnson) is determined to make his famous cover model work, but no matter how big this guy is, he’s not quite what Minx is about. While he’s very enthusiastic, he seems to be making things very hard. Doug is starting to spiral, and it’s the people who make Minx that suffer.

Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) is also coming to terms with the new changes in her life. After spending some time with her friend Maggie (Gillian Jacobs), she starts to realise that the lifestyle she thought she wanted isn’t necessarily what she wants anymore, and it hits deep. However, it’s a beautiful moment of her realising who she is and what she wants in life. She has come a long way since the pilot, and her growth is a big part of what makes this series so good.

We also get to see more of our treasured trio, Richie (Oscar Montoya), Bambi (Jessica Lowe), and Shelly (Lennon Parham). They have been not only a grounding force for Joyce throughout but a grounding part of the show. They are one of the best parts of the show, and we want them to get everything they hope for. Richie finally realises his worth and what he is capable of doing. Bambi is the moral support that everyone needs, and she is a true friend, no matter what. Bambi is such a pure character that doesn’t let things get to her too much. Shelly goes through one of the biggest changes as she starts to explore her sexuality, and what it is that she wants.

While this episode has a lot of tension, there are also a lot of moments of self-realisation that show these characters as being who they truly are.

Minx is a Refuge

The season finale is here, and it’s a hilarious but fantastic end to what has been a great show. In Minx Episode 10 ”You Happened To Me” (directed by Stella Meghie and written by Ellen Rapoport), all of the characters get to a point of happiness that looks like they have hope for their future endeavours, but it isn’t an easy journey to take.

After a legal case leads to a multitude of men protesting Minx, several revelations about the legal standing of Minx, and a very dramatic ending to the show, we finally see some light at the end of the tunnel. While it does seem a little over the top at times, it fits well within the theme of the show and how crazy everything has been up until this point.

Even with everything that happens in this show, we are given a hopeful ending to the series. Doug (Johnson) and Joyce (Lovibond) finally reach a point where they are happy and understand each other. Tina (Victor) finally sees her worth and helps to bring a sense of reality to everyone. And everyone’s favourite trio gets to see how much their work has helped everyone, and what they are worth.

Shelly (Parham) has one of my favourite journeys in these episodes. She’s struggling with her sexuality and what she wants, but in the end, she sees her beauty and what she needs. She started as a character that is full of one-liners, and while she doesn’t lose her humour, she gains a sense of realism.

Bambi (Lowe) doesn’t quite get a definite resolution, but she always seems to be a voice of reason and brings the team back to a good place. She is the spark of hope that lifts everyone’s spirits in their times of need, including the people watching. Richie (Montoya) is there with everyone, showing them what he can do, and helping when he is needed the most. I will forever love Richie, his story, and what he represents in the show.

While it doesn’t seem to have a definitive ending, it still feels like a complete show. We might not know what happens next, but that also feels okay. Everyone has come so far and grown so much, the end leaves you feeling happy and hopeful.

I Can’t Wait to See What You Do

Minx Season 1 has been hilarious, emotional, and hard-hitting, and it tackles issues that are still relevant today. An entertaining show that is helping to take steps in the right direction. While it is a comedic take on pornography and the sexual revolution, the topics and issues raised are still very much alive today, and the content is as relevant to the media industry now as it was in the ’70s.

Everything in this show looks perfect. The costumes are beautiful and not too over the top and keep the feel of the show. The soundtrack is perfect, and thank god for Spotify playlists because that’s all I’ve been playing. Overall, it’s a great show that is highly recommended and made me feel every emotion possible. A hit show that is as hilarious as it is important, it’s a must-watch for all.
