The upcoming YA fantasy novel, Lightlark, has been optioned for film by Universal in a pre-emptive offer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio will partner with Temple Hill to develop the project. The novel’s author, Alex Aster, is set to produce.

Lightlark is Aster’s debut YA novel, and is set to be published August 23rd by Amulet Books, an imprint of Abrams Books publishing company. The novel’s heroine, Isla Crown, participates in a deadly competition that sees her and five other young rulers trying to break the titular island’s very deadly and ancient curses. The book is expected to be published in more than 30 countries.

Aster is a popular influencer on the social media platform, TikTok, and is represented by CAA, Jill Grinberg Literary Management, and Myman Greenspan.
