Following this weekend’s exciting announcement at San Diego Comic-Con, where Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed two Avengers movies would release in 2025, The Hollywood Reporter (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/avengers-the-kang-dynasty-to-be-directed-by-shang-chi-filmmaker-destin-daniel-cretton-exclusive-1235186348/) shares that Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings) will helm Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
In addition to directing the fifth Avengers film, Cretton is developing both a live-action Wonder Man television series for Disney+ and Marvel Studios (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/wonder-man-marvel-disney-1235166956/), as well as a sequel to last year’s Shang-Chi. (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/shang-chi-sequel-in-the-works-as-filmmaker-destin-daniel-cretton-1235057714/). All of these projects are part of a multiyear deal the filmmaker signed with Marvel Studios last year.
Details are scarce regarding the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ newest adventure, but it can be assumed from the title of the film that Jonathan Majors will return to reprise his role as Kang The Conqueror, a portrayal previously seen during last summer’s Loki, and scheduled to return this February in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 2nd, 2025. Alongside its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, it is meant to round out Marvel‘s Phase Six. Phase Four ends with this year’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, while Phase Five begins with next year’s Quantumania and ends with 2024’s Thunderbolts.
