Deadline announced that Scream star, Neve Campbell, has been tapped to lead ABC’s new drama series, Avalon. Based on the short story by Michael Connelly, the series is set in the city of Avalon on Catalina Island. Campbell’s character, Detective Nicole “Nic” Searcy heads up a small department in charge of policing the local population and contending with the 1 million tourists a year who visit the island.

When Searcy is pulled into a “career-defining mystery,” she ends up questioning everything about herself and the city she calls home. Nic is described as tough and “holds firm to her morals.” It’s her morals and a strong sense of justice that got her banished to Avalon in the first place.

David E. Kelley is set to write and produce the pilot episode and will executive producer alongside Connelly. Avalon is ABC’s first straight-to-series order of the 2022-2023 television slate. 20th Television and A+E Studios, who also produce Kelly’s hit series, Big Sky, will produce the new series. Dana Calvo, Barry Jossen, Tana Jamieson, and Ross Fineman of Fineman Entertainment will also serve as producers.

Background on Neve Campbell

Neve Campbell, who very publicly bowed out of the Scream (2022) sequel due to a pay dispute, has experienced an extraordinary career resurgence this year. Scream (2022) performed well at the box office, and the actress appeared in the first season of Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer, of which Kelley also serves as the creator, and is set to return in Season 2 as a recurring guest star. The actress collaborated with Kelley on that series as well. Campbell is also set to reoccur opposite Anthony Mackie in the much-anticipated Peacock series, Twisted Metal.

Neve Campbell is repped by Gersh, Anonymous Content and Johnson, Shapiro, Slewett & Kole.
