Something about me? I have been a nerdy cinephile for as long as I can remember. Putting the two together is living my best life. That notwithstanding, I was born to express, not to impress, so I blog because I don't have friends. In other news, I like hashtags because they look like waffles, prefer my puns intended, and I always give 100% unless I'm donating blood. Thanks for reading.

Initially, Chris Hemsworth has a concern, a warning–not a bad medical report–about his personal well-being following a discovery that he has the “genetic disposition” for Alzheimer’s disease.

Thor isn’t sick and still has all the working functions in his brain, but he is still exhibiting Asgardian courage to take care of himself by putting his career on hold. If you watch his Disney+/National Geographic series Limitless, you may have seen the fifth episode already. It featured some gripping television that forced many fans to assume it was fake as the harrowing discovery was recorded and televised around the world.

In a candid interview with Vanity Fair, Chris Hemsworth, 39, uncovers personal details about the news he received.

His makeup includes two copies of the gene APOE4, one from his mother, the other from his father, which studies have linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

Chris Hemsworth Deserves Thunderous Support

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 6.5 million Americans (age 65 and older) are living with the dreaded neurological condition. So, when Chris Hemsworth discovers that he has two copies of the genetic code most commonly associated with Alzheimer’s disease, he’s no different than someone’s loved one struggling to survive.

However, most of those individuals don’t have a TV series featuring someone’s quest for the fountain of youth. Following the airing, Google searches for Alzheimer’s disease spiked, and national media outlets began clamoring for a word with the God of Thunder. That brings us to the aforementioned Vanity Fair article.

“They took all my bloodwork and did a bunch of tests and the plan was to on-camera tell me all the results and then talk about how you can improve this and that…And Peter Attia, who is the longevity doctor in that episode, and overseeing a lot of the show, called [“Limitless” creator] Darren [Aronofsky] and said, ‘I don’t want to tell him this on camera. We need to have an off-side conversation and see if he even wants this to be in the show.’ It was pretty shocking because he called me up and he told me.”

Carrying the DNA marker, APOE4 gene, from each of his parents created substantial concern for the actor. He is now “eight to 10 times more likely” to eventually develop Alzheimer’s disease. Needless to say, this sobering revelation is causing some real-life concern for Chris Hemsworth. To wit, he announced that he will be taking some time off from acting to focus on what really matters.

“It really triggered something in me to want to take some time off. Now when I finish this tour this week, I’m going home and I’m going to have a good chunk of time off and just simplify. Be with the kids, be with my wife.”

The Australian actor, and his wife, Elsa Pataky, 46, share three children: 10-year-old India and 8-year-old twins Sasha and Tristan. He has reason to consider the future. And if you’re wondering what the Alzheimer’s Association has to say about this?

A round of applause for their new hero.
