In the wake of John Wick: Chapter 4 (read our review), much news about the various spin-offs has been released. The John Wick franchise has been slowly building steam over the past nine years with its four main installments, with each film hinting at a larger world but never really showing it. But, that is all changing as Lionsgate gears up to start releasing spin-offs to expand the John Wick Universe.
New John Wick Spin-off in Development
First up, a new spin-off was announced to be in development during a recent interview with series producer Erica Lee at Collider.
There is another film that we’re developing that I think we’ll be announcing in the next, say, month or two. Then, I’m hopeful there’s a ‘Ballerina 2,’ and ‘John Wick 5,’ and lots of other things. But we’re developing a lot of stuff and having a lot of discussions with a lot of writers and brand management and Wick universe is my utmost priority.”

Lee didn’t provide any other details, but John Wick: Chapter 4 did introduce several characters that would be perfect for spin-offs such as Rina Sawayama’s character Akira, or Shamier Anderson’s character Nobody. The time frame of “next month or two” means the movie could be announced at CinemaCon at the end of April. But, that’s not the only John Wick universe news.
The Continental and The Ballerina Release Windows
Next, Joe Drake, Chairperson of Lionsgate, revealed to Deadline that The Continental is aiming for a release this fall on Peacock. More specifically, it could be in September according to Lee in another interview with Collider. The Continental is a three-episode prequel to John Wick about the titular hotel. It follows a younger Winston, the current-day manager of the Continental, as he gets his start in the assassination world. Collin Woodell stars as the younger Winston.
Furthermore, Drake stated the previously announced John Wick spin-off The Ballerina is releasing in either spring or summer of 2024. The Ballerina follows a female assassin who is looking to get revenge after her family is killed. It stars Ana De Armas and Norman Reedus. Keanu Reeves is also reprising his role in The Ballerina.
