Gotham City is getting a new class of criminal. Deadline reports that Batman rogue Clayface will play a big part in Matt Reeves’s upcoming The Batman – Part II. It has been noted that things could potentially change, so there is no guarantee he will be in the final product.

Additionally, it appears that there may be plans for a solo Clayface film project as well. It is unclear if that would be part of the DCU or an Elseworlds project separate from The Batman. It is also unclear which version of Clayface would appear.

Clayface first debuted in Detective Comics #40 in 1940. He started as an actor named Basil Karlo who has a mental breakdown after seeing a remake of a famous movie he starred in. He dressed up as the character Clayface who was in a previous movie of his.

Later versions of characters would get the shape-shifting ability the character is well known for. The most modern version of Clayface is Basil Karlo who has shape-shifting powers. Given how different The Riddler had been portrayed in last year’s The Batman, it is possible Clayface could be something completely unexpected in The Batman – Part II.

Background on The Batman Part II

The Batman – Part II is scheduled to release on October 3, 2025. Matt Reeves will return to direct, with Mattson Tomlin joining as a co-writer.

Tomlin previously wrote the comic Batman: The Imposter. He replaces Peter Craig, who co-wrote The Batman with Reeves. The Batman – Part II will not be a part of the upcoming shared universe of the DCU but instead in its own continuity.
