Background on Creature Commandos
Creature Commandos is a seven-episode animated series, with James Gunn having written all seven. This will be the first series to be part of the new DCU under the leadership of Gunn and Peter Safran. In the DCU, The Creature Commandos are another team put together by Amanda Waller to handle black-ops affairs similar to the Suicide Squad. However, unlike the Squad, the Commandos are all monsters.
Writer J.M. DeMatteis and artist Pat Broderick created the Creature Commandos for DC Comics in 1980. Since then, the team has made a few appearances across the DC Universe and undergone many lineup changes. The DCU’s version seems to be inspired most heavily by the original team and the modern lineup, but with a few new additions like Rick Flag Sr. and Weasel.
