Get ready for more sparkling vampires and werewolves’ abs as hit book series Twilight receives the television treatment. The Hollywood Reporter has breaking news about the series and reports that series author Stephenie Meyer is set to produce the project. This news comes one week after the Max series of Harry Potter was announced to feature J.K. Rowling as executive producer.
The Twilight television series is in early development at Lionsgate Television. Writer Sinead Daly of The Walking Dead: World Beyond (2020-2021) and Raised by Wolves (2020-2022) is set to write the series script. A source reportedly told The Hollywood Reporter that Daly is working closely with Lionsgate Television behind closed doors on the hand. There currently is no precise determination if the series will be a remake of the film series or a completely new entity. However, with the Max remake of Harry Potter, it might just follow that route.
The Sparkling News So Far
It is important to note that at the time of writing, Lionsgate has not yet commented on Twilight or a television adaptation.
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer told Wall Street during a 2017 earnings call that “there are a lot more stories to be told, and we’re ready to tell them when our creators are ready to tell those stories” about Twilight and The Hunger Games franchises. Both franchises have also received new entries within their book series since their film franchise conclusions were released.
A remake or revisit to the Twilight series makes sense, seeing that other popular book adaptations such as Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and more have had announcements regarding television adaptations. Not only that, but the studio has reportedly been pitching television ideas to networks such as Spartacus with a sequel series from creator Steven S. DeKnight. Lionsgate was the studio behind Spartacus: Blood and Sand and its prequel series Gods of the Arena.
