The 2004 hit comedy, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story will return with a sequel with star Vince Vaughn attached. Vaughn initially portrayed the owner of Average Joe’s Gym, Peter La Fleur. La Fleur leads an amateur dodgeball team as they play in a tournament to win $50,000 using the five D’s of Dodgeball (dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge).
The news broke on April 27th, 2023, at Deadline, about the comedic sequel entering development at 20th Century Studio. With Vaughn attached to star and more than likely produce, it will be interesting to see who else reprises their role within the star-studded film. It is expected that Dodgeball 2 will follow Peter La Fleur and his gym after the events of the original motion picture.
What We Know So Far About Dodgeball 2
Little is known about the upcoming Twentieth Century film besides the return of Vince Vaughn and Jordan Van Dina writing the script. The pair worked together previously on the 2020 film The Binge. The story is being kept well under wraps right now, but based on Vince Vaughn’s idea. Recently, cast members have spoken out about their thoughts on doing a Dodgeball sequel. The original film’s screenwriter and director, Rawson Marshall Thurber had this to say:
You know what — never say never. I never thought about Dodgeball as a series, but that actually might be fun. I’m proud of Dodgeball — it’s my first film and something people still really like it seems. I would say never say never; it would have to be the right take on it. But yeah, maybe.

Justin Long has also recently spoken out about wanting to revisit his role during an interview with ComicBook.com. “Of course, I would love to do it, and I hope that it ends up happening, but I think Ben [Stiller] is a little… what he told me on that podcast was that he has little trepidations about doing a sequel to something so beloved, something that people enjoy so much,” he said.
The only person skeptical of doing a sequel is Ben Stiller, who portrayed the owner of Globo Gym, White Goodman. Stiller has stated in the past about not feeling confident in doing sequels.
Dodgeball 2 might be entering the early stages of development, but there is more news to come.
