Warner Bros. sets a 2024 fall release date for Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2, starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Jenna Ortega.
A sequel to Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice is underway, thirty-six years after the original. This new film is set to open on September 6th, 2024. Production will take place in London with a script penned by Wednesday writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, The Hollywood Reporter revealed.
Marvel Studios has Blade, starring Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, True Detective), set for the same date. It is uncertain, though, if the movie will move following production shutting down due to the WGA strike.
Michael Keaton (The Flash) and Winona Ryder (Stranger Things) will reunite to play their iconic characters Betelgeuse and Lydia. As reported earlier this March, Jenna Ortega (Scream VI) is now confirmed to star in the sequel alongside them as Lydia’s daughter. Deadline reports Justin Theroux (White House Plumbers) will join the cast as well in an unknown role.
Background on Beetlejuice
The original Beetlejuice did not only resonate with audiences, it established the Burton style everyone is familiar with today. It followed Adam (Alec Baldwin, TÁR) and Barbara (Geena Davis, Glow) Maitland, a married couple who find out that they are both dead. Bothered by a new family moving into their home, the couple’s spirits harass the family in an attempt to scare them off. When their initial plan fails, they seek the help of Betelgeuse, better known as Beetlejuice. He soon becomes a threat to the lives of the new couple and their daughter Lydia (Ryder).
