Earthrealm fans rejoice as NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games’ hit fighting game franchise Mortal Kombat serves fans with plenty of news. Simon McQuiod, the director of 2021’s Mortal Kombat will once again helm a cinematic entry into the war against Outworld and Earthrealm. Not only that, but fans of Netflix’s You and Sabrina the Teenage Witch will recognize a familiar face, too, as Tati Gabrielle joins the roster for the sequel.

The latest film, Mortal Kombat 2, will continue the story surrounding fan favorite Kombatants as they defend Earthrealm from Outworld. The sequel comes as no surprise due to the 2021 Mortal Kombat film being wildly successful during the COVID-19 pandemic. The first film was also released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max, where the first movie still remains one of the platform’s most popular hits.

Gabrielle will portray Jade, who was coincidentally introduced in Mortal Kombat II. First introduced to the franchise as a simple palette swap of Princess Kitana, Jade has quickly become a fan favorite. Fans will recognize the assassin Jade as the bodyguard for Kitana, who was absent in the 2021 film and will hopefully be joining the growing cast. Another fighter that fans had missed from the previous film was Johnny Cage.

Johnny Cage is the in-game Hollywood actor who wants to prove he can fight and do his own stunts. Prime Video series’ The Boys star, Karl Urban, will be playing the cocky hero. Johnny Cage was later out of the first film but was teased in the post-credits scene, where fans can see his name on a poster of in-verse movie Citizen Cage hanging on a gym wall.

Get Over Here For More News!

On top of the news for the upcoming film, earlier this month fans received more news for the franchise, but this time for the game. On May 18th, an announcement trailer for the follow-up to 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11 was posted on YouTube. The trailer reveals that the next entry, Mortal Kombat 1, serves to reset the universe following events of the 2019 entry. The game is set to release later this year on September 19th, with Shang Tsung as the pre-order Kombatant.

On top of that, there was seemingly a major leak showcasing the upcoming game’s DLC fighter pack. The Boys‘ Karl Urban might be joining the cinematic side of the franchise, but Homelander seems to be entering the arena. Homelander is rumored to cameo alongside Invincible‘s Omni Man and Peacemaker from The Suicide Squad (2021) and the Peacemaker (2022) series. The leak behind this was on Amazon Italy, which accidentally listed the DLC fighters.

Warner Bros. nor NetherRealm have officially made a statement regarding the leaked fighters.

It seems that Mortal Kombat fans will receive plenty of gore and bone-shattering action in the near future with a new game and film in the works. Make sure to watch the Mortal Kombat 1 trailer, and get ready to fight on September 19th!
