Fans of the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise rejoice! The main star of this past fall’s film adaptation, Josh Hutcherson, gives an update on the film’s sequel. Hutcherson, who is currently doing press for his new movie, The Beekeeper, seemingly cannot avoid questions on the future of the film and potential franchise. For those unaware, Five Nights at Freddy’s debuted on October 27th, 2023, and is Blumhouse’s top-grossing film, earning $295 million at the box office and ironically spent five days ranked at #1 on Peacock.
Variety interviewed Hutcherson regarding his upcoming film, The Beekeeper, which will be released this Friday, January 12th. Hutcherson, who played Freddy Fazbear Pizza’s security guard Mike Schmidt, had this to say about the sequel to the horror mystery sequel:
I know they’re nailing down the story right now, and they want to get going as soon as possible. [T]he fans are amazing and die hard. For me to be a part of [‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’] was so cool and phenomenal. We hoped [the film] would connect with audiences. But I don’t think that anybody, even on our side of things, expected it to really connect the way that it did. I’m dying to get back on set. Emma Tammi, our director, was fantastic, and it was such a fun world to play in. I’m excited to see what they are doing next.

Five Nights of Success!
As stated previously, the Five Nights at Freddy’s film adaptation grossed over $295 million at the box office. This is fantastic for a film with a $20 million budget. Not only are there impressive box office numbers for a Blumhouse film, but the movie debuted the same day as the release of Peacock. The film was registered as #1 on the streaming platform for precisely five days before falling down the rankings.
This prompted Hutcherson to share that his The Hunger Games costar Jennifer Lawrence texted him about the success of his film. “Jen texted me when Freddy’s came out,” Hutcherson said. “She was like, ‘My movie’s #1 on Netflix, and yours is #1 at the box office! Let’s go!’ I was like, ‘I love you!'”
Five Nights at Freddy’s is currently streaming on Peacock, and the original 2014 game is available on multiple gaming platforms. The franchise is a horror video game genre staple and is now becoming a film staple at Blumhouse and Peacock.
Stay tuned for more updates, and remember to watch The Beekeeper to see what’s next for Hutcherson!
