James Gunn has cast Milly Alcock as Supergirl for the new DC Universe (DCU). The character is first expected to appear in Gunn’s upcoming Superman: Legacy before leading her own movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Alcock is best known as Rhaenyra Targaryen from HBO’s House of The Dragon.
Alcock joins an all-star cast that features David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Furthermore, Nicholas Hoult will play Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, amongst others.
Plot details on both Superman: Legacy and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow are scarce but Woman of Tomorrow is confirmed to be an adaptation of the comic book limited series of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Mat Lopes. The comic features Supergirl going on a cross-galaxy adventure to help avenge a family while dealing with her own grief about the destruction of her home planet Krypton.
Currently, there is no director attached to Woman of Tomorrow, although the script is being written by Ana Nogueira (The Michael J. Fox Show, The Vampire Diaries, The Blacklist).
