The gates to Jurassic World are opening again. As detailed by The Hollywood Reporter, Gareth Edwards will be directing the new Jurassic World movie. Previously, David Leitch was attached to direct but quickly left the project due to creative differences.
Particulars are scarce on the movie as of now, but original movie scribe David Koepp is writing the screenplay. Universal Pictures has set a July 2nd, 2025 release date. This means that speed is key and the studio is looking to begin production as soon as possible. Edwards has experience working on big franchises in the studio system with 2014’s Godzilla, which launched the Monsterverse, and 2016’s Rogue One, regarded as one of the better Star Wars movies, making him a good fit to get something done quickly.
Edwards most recently directed The Creator, which looked better than most major blockbusters while being made for much cheaper. This is another reason he may be appealing to Universal.
Currently, none of the actors from the previous Jurassic Park or World movies are expected to return.
