Ready for another stay at the Continental? A new John Wick spinoff starring Donnie Yen has been confirmed to be in development. Yen is returning as Caine, his character from John Wick: Chapter 4. Yen is best known for his role in the IP Man series and his Rogue One role, Chirrut Îmwe. He had this to say on returning:

Working on John Wick: Chapter 4 was an extraordinary experience. The reason these films resonate so deeply is because, like myself, Chad, Basil and Erica push themselves to create action, fights and stunts that are not only thrilling, inventive and artistic, but also expressive of character, story and emotion. Caine is an incredible character with a haunted past, and I am excited to return to the role”.

Robert Askins is writing the film. Askins has written several episodes of Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy. Additionally, filming is set to begin in 2025 in Hong Kong and is being produced by Chad Stahelski—the director behind the John Wick series—via 87Eleven as well Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee through Thunder Road. Staheleski recently signed on to oversee the development of the franchise including any spinoff projects.

Lionsgate seems to be taking a slow and steady approach to expanding the world of John Wick. This film would mark the third spinoff for the franchise after The Continental series and the yet-to-be-released The Ballerina starring Ana De Armas. The Ballerina was slated for release this year but had been delayed to 2025 to rework action sequences and other elements.

What are you hoping to see in a film about Caine? What other John Wick characters, if any, would you like to see get spinoffs? Let us know in the comments!
