The Supergirl panel at San Diego Comic-Con was full of news. The show has two new show runners: Jessica Queller and Robert Rovne. Actors Adrian Pasdar (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D), Carl Lumbly (Alias), Yael Grobglas (Jane the Virgin) and Emma Tremblay (Elysium) are joining the show’s third season.
Pasdar is set to portray Morgan Edge, a charismatic but ruthless real estate developer, whose big plans for National City put him at odds with Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath).
Lumbly will play the character M’yrnn J’onzz, J’onn J’onnz’s (David Harewood) father. He’s a peaceful religious leader on Mars, who pushes his son in unexpected ways.
Grobglas will portray Psi, a psychic villain who uses people’s own minds against them. This will put her on Supergirl’s path, who will be affected by their encounter in surprising ways.
Tremblay will play Ruby, a smart kid from National City, whose fascination with Supergirl will put her in harm’s way.
New showrunners Queller and Rovne revealed that this season’s theme will be what it means to be human:
“All of the characters will be exploring that question, especially Kara,” Queller said.
Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) will be returning to show and will have a recurring role. Last season viewers found out that she always knew Kara Danvers and Supergirl were one and the same.
Also returning at some point in season 3 is Mon-El (Christopher Wood). In the season 3 finale, Mon-El had to leave Earth after its atmosphere was filled with lead in order to drive away the Daxamites and put an end to their invasion. How he will return will be one of this season’s mysteries.
Also, Floriana Lima’s change from series regular to recurring guest star was discussed:
“Most of you know that Floriana is not able to return for the full season but that being said we have an amazing beautiful story to tell that really honors the love between these two women.”
