Heroic Hollywood reported that Deadpool actor Ed Skrein has left the Hellboy reboot over whitewashing controversy. Skrien was supposed to play Major Ben Daimio, who is Asian from the comics. Skrein posted this on twitter:
— Ed Skrein (@edskrein) August 28, 2017
Producers, Larry Gordon, Lloyd Levin, Millennium Films and Lionsgate from the reboot released this statement:
“Ed came to us and felt very strongly about this. We fully support his unselfish decision. It was not our intent to be insensitive to issues of authenticity and ethnicity, and we will look to recast the part with an actor more consistent with the character in the source material.”
Hellboy will release sometime in 2018.
