Chris Mckenna and Erik Summers were among the many writers of this year’s Marvel summer hit Spider-Man: Homecoming. It’s been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter that the pair will return to co-write the screenplay for the untitled sequel.

With Homecoming grossing $737 million worldwide, Sony and Marvel Studios intend to replicate the success by bringing as many elements from the film as possible back for the sequel, and two those elements are Mckenna and Summers.

The pair have writing credits such as the TV shows American Dad! and Community as well as this year’s The Lego Batman Movie, so we can expect more of the frenetic action and fun high-school comedy and superhero comedy that made Homecoming so great. They are also set to co-write the screenplays of Sony’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Marvel’s Ant-man and the Wasp, which shows both studios have faith in the writers.

Besides Mckenna and Summers being confirmed to co-write the untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, Tom Holland is already confirmed to star as the titular web-slinger and the film’s director Jon Watts is in early talks to return for the sequel. The film is set to release on July 5, 2019.
