We are less than a year away from Avengers: Infinity War and the excitement just keeps on escalating. There are a lot of reasons for Marvel fans to be excited, especially the fact that various superheroes, including the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy, are coming to together to stop a common threat. Furthermore, some heroes will meet other heroes for the first time and, since this will be a Marvel film, you can expect some funny dialogue and interactions between the characters. Spider-man finally meeting Thor and Hulk, Drax not understanding Tony Stark’s sarcastic replies, Rocket trying to steal Bucky’s metal arm, Tony and Dr. Strange being facial hair bros (plus a few Sherlock jokes) are just some of the interactions speculated by fans.

One cast member of Infinity War who’s particularly excited about these interactions is Mark Ruffalo, who will be playing the Hulk and his alter ego Bruce Banner as usual. In an interview with USA Today, Ruffalo expressed his enthusiasm and possibly revealed a particular relationship that might form between his character and another character:

All of the universes coming together is just a sight gag within itself. It’s a very funny relationship that the two of them have: First of all, it’s the biggest superhero and the smallest. Just keeping them in a frame together is a feat and hilarious in itself.

It could be Ant-man, played by Paul Rudd, but he’s not exactly small, he just shrinks and sometimes he even grows (but still, it would be fun to have a follow up to the Coca-Cola commercial with Hulk and Ant-man). So by “smallest” superhero, Ruffalo is probably referring to the Guardians’ Rocket Racoon, played by Bradley Cooper.

Putting these two together is a smart move. First of all, Rocket may have made his first appearance in Marvel Preview #7 (1976) but he made his first full appearance in Incredible Hulk #271, in 1982, so Hulk has been an important factor in Rocket’s comic book history and their relationship goes back decades. Second, because they could make for some funny dialogue. Between Rocket’s sarcastic comments and Hulk’s angry replies (specially now that he talks more than usual), these two could really work of each other. Third, because they would make an unbeatable team, with Hulk being the brawns and Rocket being the brains. And finally, because Hulk and Rocket have a lot in common, since both of them are angry at the world for seeing them as nothing more than monsters, often feeling as outcasts. Overall it, looks like a fun and exciting idea.

What characters interactions and team-ups will also be featured in the film? We’ll have to wait until Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters to find out. Avengers: Infinity War is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and is the 19th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is set to premiere on May 4, 2018.
