After two months since Andy Muschietti’s IT: Chapter One has hit theaters, the film has been lauded by critics and fans alike and consequently broke records at the box office as both a horror film and an R-rated film. This includes supposedly having made more money than 1973’s The Exorcist. The director, as well as his sister and producer Barbara Muschietti, announced an extended version of the film will be worked on in time for its home release, and details for the sequel were explained. In late September, Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema announced September 6, 2019, as the release date for the film’s sequel titled IT: Chapter Two.
Earlier this week, fans were given even more surprises.
In an interview with Screen Rant for her recent film Molly’s Game, Jessica Chastain expressed interest in joining the sequel as an adult Beverly “Bev” Marsh. With her name being thrown around since the film surfaced in theaters, Chastain told SR:
“I love Andy and Barbara [Muschietti]. I worked with them on Andy’s directorial debut, you know, his film, Mama. His first film. And you know, Barbara is one of my best friends so… We’ll see. Listen, of course, I want to work… they’re my friends. They’re like my family. Anything that they’re doing I want to be a part of, so I hope we can make it happen.”
Idris Elba, who was being interviewed alongside Chastain, has also expressed interest in playing an adult Mike Hanlon. Having already played a character in The Dark Tower, albeit a movie which has done poorly from a critical and financial standpoint, it would be nice to give Elba a second chance at another role in a Stephen King adaptation.
Likewise, Nicholas Hamilton–who plays Henry Bowers in IT: Chapter One and perhaps Chapter Two–played a bully character in The Dark Tower, which was released a month prior to the killer clown film.
