Ellen Ripley could be added to the names of fictional characters to have the clock digitally turned back in order to appear in another film. Alien: Covenant director Ridley Scott won’t rule out bringing the character back to the franchise digitally. His comments are detailed in this quote from Empire.
“Scott will, it seems, be holding back some of his gruesome notions for future installments: he is planning at least two more films before linking up with the original Alien. “Right now we’ve got a ten-page synopsis,” he reveals. “John Logan’s doing it. And we know where we’re going with it.” He is not ruling out the idea of using a digitally de-aged Sigourney Weaver to bring back Ripley, “You could do that,” he allows. And Logan promises “different mutations” of the Alien to come.
The character was digitally brought back for an expansion edition of the video game Alien: Isolation, but putting that effect to work in a live action film is a different story and could be scrutinized heavily.
