For some time, Disney has been planning their own streaming service, with all their classic and more modern movies expected to be featured. Movies such as Avengers: Infinity War, Iron Man, and other Marvel movies are also expected to make their way to the service. Other MCU installments that are available on Hulu and Netflix have yet to be given futures on the service, however, some MCU characters were granted the special privilege of having their own shows in Disney’s upcoming streaming service.
Yesterday, Variety broke the news that smaller Marvel Cinematic Universe characters such as Loki and Scarlet Witch will have shows exclusive to the service. Loki actor Tom Hiddleston is set to return for his own series, as is Scarlet Witch actress Elizabeth Olsen. The shows are meant to focus on characters who have yet to have and likely won’t have their own standalone films. The report also mentioned that each series would have six to eight episodes a piece. They will also fall under the umbrella of Marvel Studios instead of Marvel Television, where most other shows such as Daredevil and Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D. call home.
It is reported that Kevin Feige will play a major role in the production of the films, and their budgets will rival those of a major blockbuster. The plots of the shows, however, are yet to be known, and the only confirmed characters to have shows as of now will be Loki and Scarlet Witch. With no plot, this is far from a confirmation that Loki did survive Infinity War or will be brought back in Avengers 4.
The streaming service also does not have a release date, but is expected sometime in late 2019.
