Harry Styles, the boyband sensation turned solo artist/actor is in early talks to play Prince Eric in Disney’s upcoming live-action The Little Mermaid film according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film has already found its lead in Halle Bailey from the duo Chloe x Halle. Other stars in early negotiation are Melissa McCarthy, Jacob Tremblay, and Awkwafina.

It seems that the music will take a larger role in this film if Harry gets cast. In the original film, Prince Eric had no songs but in the Broadway version of the story, he has two solo numbers. Perhaps they’re looking for someone with a musical background to fill this spot.

If Styles booked the role, he would not be a stranger to the silver screen. Back in 2017, he was cast in Christopher Nolan’s WWII film Dunkirk. He created quite the acting buzz around himself and more recently he was rumored to be the next Elvis in Baz Luhrman’s biopic, however that role went to Austin Butler.

The internet is going crazy over this rumor and it’s only a matter of time until we find out for certain since production will begin in 2020. In the meantime, do you like this casting rumor? Did you have someone else in mind for Prince Eric? Let us know on Twitter @TheCinemaSpot.
