It’s time to reassemble the Ghost crew! It’s being reported by THE DIS INSIDER that a sequel series to the beloved animated series Star Wars: Rebels, is in development at Lucasfilm for Disney+. While nothing story-based is touched upon, the report says that the series is rumored to heavily feature both Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren as the main characters back in action. The series is rumored to debut in the fall of this year.

If you’ve seen Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, then you know that sometime between the events of Rebels and the aforementioned film, Ahsoka becomes one with the force (her voice can be heard talking to Rey in the climax). Dave Filoni is said to be working on the series, but not in as crucial of a role as he had in the initial Rebels run. It would be fitting for Filoni to give his baby, Ahsoka, her closure as a character. Perhaps she fought against the First Order? Maybe she met Luke and helped train new Jedi? The possibilities for the continuation of her story are all quite intriguing, and the creator of one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars universe definitely deserves the opportunity to give her a proper ending.

The revival of the Rebels characters makes sense in the current state of Star Wars. It has been widely reported that Disney and Lucasfilm are ‘slowing down’ on their production of Star Wars films, but have revved up their production of television. The Mandalorian has been wildly successful and the upcoming reboot of another beloved animation, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, has a great deal of anticipation behind it.

What do you think about a sequel series to Star Wars: Rebels? Are you excited to see a continuation of Ahsoka and Sabine’s story?
