With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic happening around the world, live-action projects are at a temporary impasse with cast and crew members for both film and television being sent home. Luckily, our alternative sources of entertainment are what can be produced from home, that is, music, podcasts, and animation.
FX has always had live-action television and films broadcast on its channel, with the only exception being Archer. As per Collider, the animated television comedy will have a companion in its genre, as the network has ordered a new animated pilot starring Aubrey Plaza, Danny DeVito, and his daughter Lucy DeVito. Dan Harmon, the creator of NBC‘s Community & Adult Swim‘s Rick and Morty, is hired to be an executive producer. The series is set to begin production next week.
Additionally, Collider wrote a synopsis of the series:
Danny DeVito will play the Devil, who impregnates a reluctant young woman (Plaza). 13 years later, the mother and her Antichrist daughter (Lucy DeVito) attempt to live an ordinary life in Delaware but are constantly thwarted by monstrous forces, including Satan, who yearns for custody of his daughter’s soul.
DeVito and Plaza have previously worked on other FX television programs — the former on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and the latter on Noah Hawley’s Legion. DeVito’s daughter herself has a ton of acting credits as well, most recently of which were roles in last year’s Dumbo and Jumanji: The Next Level (her father appeared in the latter).
The animated series will be created by Darcy Fowler, Seth Kirschner, and Kieran Valla, all of whom will executive produce with Harmon. This collaboration between Harmon, Plaza, and the DeVitos would be an interesting sight once this pilot hits television screens.
What is your opinion on this? Are you excited? Would you see this series if it comes to fruition? Let us know! For more FX and comedy-related news and reviews follow The Cinema Spot on Twitter (@TheCinemaSpot) and Instagram (@thecinemaspot_).
