They Came Together is the romantic comedy equivalent of the Scary Movie franchise. It’s one of the funniest spoofs on romantic comedies I’ve ever seen, and it stars Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd. The film’s other stars include Ellie Kemper, Bill Hader, Cobie Smulders, Jason Mantzoukas, Ed Helms, Randall Park, Michaela Watkins, and Christopher Meloni.
Molly (Amy Poehler) owns a quaint little candy store where all of her merchandise is free. Joel (Paul Rudd) works for a big candy corporation that is about to close Molly’s business. The two of them have a not so cute meet-cute while both dressed as Benjamin Franklin. They start out as enemies, fall in love, fall out of love, and then back in love again.
This movie takes romantic comedies to another level with kooky characters, over the top orchestrations, and every hilarious cliché known to man. It’s available to watch on Hulu with an HBO Max add on HBO Now.
