Update: Amazon Studios is eyeing a purchase of Skydance’s The Tomorrow War for $200 million. Read more here.

A new report from Deadline reveals that Chris Pratt’s The Tomorrow War may go to streaming after a screening for multiple streaming services this weekend. It is reported that Skydance, the production company behind the sci-fi action flick, is leading the charge in the attempt to sell the film off. The Tomorrow War was also reportedly well-received by numerous services.

Originally set to premiere in theaters on December 25, 2020, The Tomorrow War was moved to a July 23, 2021 theatrical slot. The film still holds the July 2021 place as it looks to sell.

Written by Zach Dean, The Tomorrow War is set in a futuristic world at war with humanity on the brink. In order to save the future of mankind, a man is recruited from the past. Despite the many films released in recent years based on existing IP, Dean crafted the story himself, which was also well-received by test audiences.

Skydance has recently sold a handful of other films to streaming services as the globad COVID-19 pandemic rages with no clear end in sight. In November, Skydance and Paramount‘s Without Remorse, starring Michael B. Jordan, was sold to Amazon. In December, the two studios also parted with their animated films Spellbound and Luck, both headed to Apple. With the fate of theatrical releases still up in the air for much of 2021, The Tomorrow War eyeing a jump to a streaming service may wind up as a move in its favor.

The Tomorrow War stars Chris Pratt, Betty Gilpin, Yvonne Strahovski, and is directed by Chris McKay with a script from Zach Dean.
