A new report from The Cosmic Circus indicates that a Werewolf By Night series is in development at Disney+! The character has been rumored to be introduced to the ever-expanding MCU in Moon Knight, starring Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke. According to the report, Werewolf By Night will film under the working title Natural History Productions LLC, and begins production in February 2022.
Previously, Kevin Smith sought to include the character in his now-scrapped Howard the Duck series for Hulu. Unfortunately Marvel’s then-Vice President of Television Jeph Loeb nixed the idea since the character would appear in another production. In January 2020, Marvel Studios officially cancelled the series, which might indicate that Werewold By Night has been in the works for some time.
In the comics, Werewolf By Night first appeared in Marvel Spotlight #2 in 1972. It became the moniker of two characters, Jack Russel and Jake Gomez, who become werewolves during the night. The first run was based on an idea from Roy Thomas and executed by Gerry Conway and Mike Ploog. The comic experienced a 44-issue run, including the introduction of Moon Knight in issue #32.
Disney+ is really ramping up its original franchise content for Marvel Studios. An Echo series is in development as a spinoff of the upcoming Hawkeye series starring Hailee Steinfeld and Jeremy Renner, She-Hulk with Tatiana Maslany in the titular role, Loki renewed for a season 2, an Ironheart and Armor Wars series in development, and Secret Wars getting started in pre-production with Emilia Clarke attached to star opposite Kingsley Ben-Adir and Olivia Colman, who make their MCU debut, and Samuel L. Jackson with Ben Mendelsohn returning as Nick Fury and Talos respectively.
Are you excited to see Werewolf make his debut in the MCU? Let us know in the comments below which version you think we’ll see!
