Something about me? I have been a nerdy cinephile for as long as I can remember. Putting the two together is living my best life. That notwithstanding, I was born to express, not to impress, so I blog because I don't have friends. In other news, I like hashtags because they look like waffles, prefer my puns intended, and I always give 100% unless I'm donating blood. Thanks for reading.
There has been rumor, innuendo, lies, and pontification for the leader of DC Films, and now we know it’s James Gunn! (Oh, Peter Safran too.) But, that’s James effin’ Gunn! BANG BANG!
When we thought the Man from Puffer Vest Land couldn’t make strong headlines, David Zaslav did the unthinkable. He recruits a nerd CBM legend to helm the resurrection of DC Comics and Warner Bros. insurrection in theaters for the past decade.
Nerd Nation, or whatever we call our community (i.e., Geek Speak, Meeb Dweebs, Cult of Cosplay), was already giddy about the news. And then, this happened, silencing haters worldwide!
What the Feige?
Since Guardians of the Galaxy took the world by storm, James Gunn and Kevin Feige have been buddies. They appreciate each other’s moxie, mind, and mental quirks. Always a fan-favorite, James Gunn was a name bandied about when discussing who could help DC Comics and their ham-handed extended universe.
Feige has been by Gunn’s side through thick (a Brinks truck of cash profits) and thin (remember those errant tweets). So, when the keys to the DC kingdom were given to the sage visionary behind The Suicide Squad and HBO Max’s Peacemaker, we knew Feige would be kind about his praise.
During the Wakanda Forever premiere, the news about James Gunn (and Peter Safran) was only a day old, so it’s a natural assumption someone was going to put a hot microphone in Feige’s face. And, as he does with 99% of the Marvel films he touches, the guy did not disappoint.
I speak to James almost every day. We have a wonderful thing called the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special coming out. We have a wonderful thing called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming out in May…How he’ll have any time to work on DC until May I don’t know, but once he does have the time I’ll be very excited. I’ll be first in line.
Kevin Feige, THR
Never missing a chance to plug Marvel (he did it twice and with finesse), Feige may have changed things in the nerd cosmos. Aside from applauding WBD for a genius move and DC Studios/ Films/ Entertainment/ Universe (whatever the hell), Feige congratulated a friend and possibly created the foundation for the Marvel vs. DC movie idea once for all.
