The stakes are raising for Blade. Deadline reports that Mia Goth has joined the cast of Marvel’s upcoming Blade movie. Goth has been making a name for herself with her critically acclaimed roles in many horror films. She has recently appeared in Pearl and Infinity Pool. As of now, her role in Blade is unknown.
Yann Demage is directing the project, while Micheal Starburry is writing. Mahershala Ali is starring in the titular role. The movie has unfortunately undergone some behind-the-scenes turbulence. Initially, Bassam Tariq was directing but left the project due to creative differences a few weeks before the start of filming last year. Production has since been delayed while the new creative team overhauls the movie.
Blade is scheduled to release on September 6th, 2024.
Background on Blade
Illustrator Gene Colan and writer Marv Wolfman created Blade in 1973. The character first appeared in Marvel’s The Tomb of Dracula comic. Blade is a vampire hunter, while himself being half vampire which makes him immune to sunlight. In 1998, Blade was adapted into a live-action movie of the same name. The Wesley Snipes-led Blade trilogy would go on to pave the way for further live-action adaptations including 2000’s X-Men and Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man. Blade would go on to appear in two more sequels under New Line Cinema: Blade 2 and Blade Trinity.
