After months of hype and weekly character reveals, Injustice 2 was finally released today and (so far) it is well worth the wait.

Let me preface this by saying I am not much of a gamer. I’ve never been the guy in my group of friends who wins in any video game. But after the genius marketing strategy from those at DC, I was among the millions of superhero fans salivating to get my hands on the game.

Purchasing the game at midnight, I got a jump start on the story mode and it is everything a fan of DC heroes could ever want. Between the dynamic of Gorilla Grodd attempting to take over the world and using a small army of super villains, including Catwoman, Cheetah, Captain Cold, and Bane, to do his bidding, the budding and unlikely teamwork of the likes of Oliver Queen and Harley Quinn or Black Adam and Supergirl, the looming threat of Superman and the return of the Joker, and the INSANE and realistic graphics, it is truly a HUGE comic book crossover event come to life.

Not enough can be said about the look of the game. The entire ambiance and environment is dark, gritty, and has the type of quality one would expect from an animated series following these characters. Just take a look at this video and realize just how deep into the future we are.

The game play is very slick and cohesive. Not often does a game go off without a hitch after hours of repetitive use. It’s obvious the game makers took the criticism of the first game to heart. Many said it took the blueprint for Mortal Kombat-like fighting games and plugged in their own characters without doing anything to really stand out as unique and special.

While it does follow the same route of typical fighting games, Injustice 2 is special and unique.

The environment interactions, stage transitions, cutaway scenes, and the newly implemented character trait system, which gives each of the beloved DC stars a truly one of a kind playing experience, are all brilliantly constructed to allow for a unbelievably satisfying time.

While the actual mechanics of the game is something to be admired, the voice cast is legendary. With Alan Tudyk, Tara Strong, Kevin Conroy, and Steve Blum the game feels like a cinematic experience and allows fans to completely suspend belief and lose themselves for a few hours. The motion capture makes the heroes look like actors instead of digitally created playable characters. The writing provides a rewarding and engaging narrative that is completely original and unlike anything we’re seeing from DC television shows, comic books, or DCEU films.

While I have only made it about halfway through the story mode, I am already in love with everything Injustice 2 has to offer. Die hard comic fans are sure to do the same as well as casual game players. I highly recommend you rush to the nearest video game seller and pick up your copy today!
